Realistically you're never going to have an european Corolla or Thinkpad equivalent, since the markets and cultures of even neighboring countries are way too different. Closest you're gonna get is the VW Golf or Samsung, and they're not the same thing as Latitude's or Thinkpad's hegemony at all.

It's a matter of culture and balance sheets mostly. No one with a normoid desk job is going to prefer a shitcan Dell to a sleek chromebook.
This is not new at all btw. Old Apple commercials were literally this idea. Modern white works-out-the-box laptops vs clunky boring beige boxes.
