My wife is from Bolivia, and after visiting there, I've noticed that there's an entity called "Mother Earth" which some people offer sacrifices and offerings such as alcoholic or sugary beverages, candies, cigars and et cetera… there are rumors that some people may also offer human sacrifices in some cases.
Even in some christian contexts, for instance, a statue of Jesus, they will fill it with offerings and such stuff…
I've never been in Mexico, but I've noticed they also have a lot of pagan habits and seemingly worship saints as if they were rather different deities instead of worshipping the only single One.
Also noticed that in these places, people strongly believe in stuff such as witchcraft, elves and people who transform into animals and vice-versa.
Seriously, myself as a Christian, I would never ever offer stuff to a deity called "mother earth".
